Welcome

Lanark & District u3a is for anyone who is retired or semi-retired and those on the young side of the ‘third age’ of life who are no longer in employment.

Learn

L&D u3a is a great place to expand your knowledge with like-minded people. Whether it is gardening, discussing current topics or talking about books or poetry, there are lots of opportunities to continue learning - and if there is not a group to suit you, let's start one!

Laugh

There is a humour group where there might be great comedy from guest speakers or we might watch a comedy film or a sitcom. However, there can be uncontrolled laughter just learning a new activity when a few folk can't remember the directions.

Live

The u3a movement contributes so much to society. It not only supports people to continue learning and engaging in life, but it draws people together and helps to build strong, connected communities. This is a vital antidote to the widespread and devastating effects of loneliness and social isolation." Says Harriet Radermacher, author of the report and Policy Manager at the Third Age Trust.

Welcome from the Chair 2024/2025

Spring Newsletter

Spring is here and with it the promise of growth and renewal. L&D u3a has grown to 328 with 79 new members in 2025. The weather is warmer, and the days are longer for all activities.

L&D u3a contribution to the community

L&D u3a has integrated with community organisations at several recent charity fundraisers, supported Braw Clan the Scots language theatre company, Shine and LAMS at their spring productions. In addition to ‘Fusion’ L&D u3a now has a new music group ‘Those Were the Days’ that has been ‘on tour’ entertaining residents in local care homes.

Membership renewals will be unaffected, other than other options for paying subscriptions. More information will follow. We look forward to this next stage in our Beacon journey.
