Welcome

Lanark & District u3a is for anyone who is retired or semi-retired and those on the young side of the ‘third age’ of life who are no longer in employment.

Learn

L&D u3a is a great place to expand your knowledge with like-minded people. Whether it is gardening, discussing current topics or talking about books or poetry, there are lots of opportunities to continue learning - and if there is not a group to suit you, let's start one!

Laugh

There is a humour group where there might be great comedy from guest speakers or we might watch a comedy film or a sitcom. However, there can be uncontrolled laughter just learning a new activity when a few folk can't remember the directions.

Live

The u3a movement contributes so much to society. It not only supports people to continue learning and engaging in life, but it draws people together and helps to build strong, connected communities. This is a vital antidote to the widespread and devastating effects of loneliness and social isolation." Says Harriet Radermacher, author of the report and Policy Manager at the Third Age Trust.

Welcome from the Chair 2026/2027

 U3A SUMMER REPORT 2026

We have now reached the end of another eventful year and for our U3a in Lanark and District it has been a very successful one. 110 new members joined us last year and our membership now stands at 381; our monthly meetings are well attended and  attract visitors from far and wide, and thanks to our enthusiastic group leaders, our groups are going from strength to strength, with new groups starting all the time, in response to requests from members. Visits to Little Sparta will take place soon and we have continued the popular  tradition of an Annual Outing for members; this year a sail on Loch Lomond is planned for August, with afternoon tea in Arrochar.

We can now look forward to kicking off the 2026-27 session in September with a full committee in place, and planning for an exciting range of speakers for our monthly meetings is well underway. Our challenge now is to spread the word about how worthwhile and enjoyable it is, to be a member of Lanark and District U3a. If you think you might be interested in joining us, please get in touch, you'll be sure of a warm welcome!
