L&D u3a is a great place to expand your knowledge with like-minded people. Whether it is gardening, discussing current topics or talking about books or poetry, there are lots of opportunities to continue learning - and if there is not a group to suit you, let's start one!

There is a humour group where there might be great comedy from guest speakers or we might watch a comedy film or a sitcom. However, there can be uncontrolled laughter just learning a new activity when a few folk can't remember the directions.

U3A SEPTEMBER 2026

As we celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Lanark and District U3a, it is my pleasure to welcome you, our members, old and new, to the 2026- 27 session. I would like to begin by thanking the founding members and all those who have worked so tirelessly since then to make our group the success it is today.

September marks the restart of many of our group activities, (although some have not actually stopped for a break over the summer), so this might be the time to think about trying a new group. If there is space for you, you will be made very welcome.

Things are looking really good for our new session. We have an enthusiastic , hard -working committee, a great programme of speakers lined up for our monthly Open Meetings and our membership is increasing, thanks to the variety of group activities on offer and the commitment of our group leaders.

There is still something that we need to work on, however, and for that we need the help of every single member. Many retired and semi-retired people in our area have not heard of the U3a and don't realise that there is a fantastic alternative to staying at home and feeling isolated. Please spread the word about the benefits of joining Lanark and District U3a and if you can, encourage anyone you know who might be interested to come with you to our Open Day at the Tolbooth in Lanark this Saturday, September 19th, from 10am. There will be information about all the group activities and also a rota of group leaders on hand, to answer any questions you may have.

As we begin our new session, I would like to send you my warmest wishes for an enjoyable, happy and healthy year as a member of Lanark and District U3a.
